The Ministry of Social Development, Family and Fight Against Hunger recently released the updated list of documents required to register with CadÚnico, the federal database that includes individuals in situations of social vulnerability.
This database is essential for selecting beneficiaries of various social programs, such as Bolsa Família, the national Auxílio Gás, and the Social Electricity Tariff, for example. Those registered with CadÚnico often qualify for discounts on public examination and university entrance exam registration fees.
Although CadÚnico is administered by the Federal Government, the selection of beneficiaries takes place at local city halls. Generally, citizens need to go to a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) to register, bringing a series of documents. It is precisely this list of documents that has undergone a review.

One-person families
The Federal Government decided to establish a new list for so-called single-person households. These are people who register with CadÚnico as living alone. In theory, there is no problem with living alone and receiving Bolsa Família, but the Ministry suspects fraud in these registrations.
Last year, the general rules for Auxílio Brasil established a single payment of R$ 600 for all families, regardless of the number of residents in the same household. Thus, a single-person household received the same amount as a large family. The current Government claims that many people declared that they lived alone solely to receive the full R$ 600.
“Single-person households must follow specific service procedures, due to the significant increase in the proportion of single-person households compared with other types of households in the Single Registry, which is not consistent with what has been indicated by surveys conducted by official research agencies”.
The Government states that citizens who enter false information into the CadÚn
ico system may be subject to inspection by the Federal Revenue Service or representatives of the Single Registry in their municipality. The person may be held responsible for entering false information in an official document.
The CadÚnico
As mentioned, CadÚnico serves as an entry point to various social programs. However, registering on the list does not guarantee automatic receipt of any benefit.
In any case, citizens in vulnerable situations have everything to gain by registering with CadÚnico. It is the most direct way to receive assistance. Those who are already registered should keep their information up to date and accurate to avoid being removed.
