How to become eligible to receive the benefit?
The journey begins with registration in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government. This is because it is the first step toward joining the Bolsa Família program and other social benefits offered by the state. Next, the family representative must go to a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) in their municipality.
At CRAS, specialists assist with the process of including families in the Cadastro Único and monitor the entire procedure. However, it is essential to bring the necessary documents, such as an identity document, proof of residence, CPF, voter registration card, birth certificate, and marriage certificate.
In addition, all family members who will be included in Bolsa Família must also provide their respective documents. Finally, the Ministry of Citizenship will assess the family's eligibility for the Bolsa Família program, determining whether it meets the necessary criteria to receive the benefit.
The current president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) created Bolsa Família in 2003, continuing its purpose of combating poverty throughout Brazil. Thus, the direct income transfer program provides essential support to families living in poverty and extreme poverty.
