The Federal Government plans to establish the amounts and rules for Bolsa Família 2024 later this week
How much will Bolsa Família pay in 2024? The decision on this matter has not yet been formalized by the federal government; however, by the end of this week, many beneficiaries will have a clearer view of the issue. The Ministry of Planning and Budget will reveal the amount intended to be offered to those enrolled in the program starting next year.

Clearly, the week ahead is crucial for Bolsa Família, since, according to internal rules, the government has until next Thursday (31) to submit its budget plan. This is a report that consolidates all federal expenditure estimates for the following year.
Once the report is published this week, it will be possible to determine the amount the government intends to allocate to social initiatives such as Bolsa Família and the national Auxílio-Gás. These are discretionary expenses, thus allowing the government the flexibility to increase or decrease the amounts paid, based on the budgetary reality.
How much will Bolsa Família be?

Initially, it is worth mentioning that there is no legislation requiring the Federal Government to increase the Bolsa Família amount. Therefore, if President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) chooses to maintain the current amount, he may do so. Likewise, if he decides to reduce the amount paid to beneficiaries, he has the authority to do so.
According to internal sources mentioned by newspapers such as Folha de São Paulo and O Globo, two alternatives are being considered:
- Keep Bolsa Família at R$ 600;
- Slightly adjust the payment amount.
Reducing the Bolsa Família amount for next year is not being considered by the Ministry of Planning. The uncertainty lies in whether there will be room to increase this amount or whether it will remain at R$ 600, as it is currently.
Beyond Bolsa Família
As mentioned, the budget plan is a document that will detail all government expenditures for the coming year. In this context, there is curiosity about other topics besides Bolsa Família. One example would be the amount set for the minimum wage.
In the report, the government will likely indicate its proposal for next year’s minimum wage. Currently, the base amount is R$ 1,320, and initial forecasts suggest an increase to R$ 1,421, representing a real gain against current inflation projections.
“It is evident that President [Lula] will not fail to grant a real increase to the minimum wage next year. One way or another, he will not break a campaign promise,” said Minister Simone Tebet in a recent statement.
Whether for the Benefit or the minimum wage, such projections are not definitive. After the document is presented, Congress will begin debating the proposed topics, and the amounts may be adjusted by the end of the year.

Before a concrete decision, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) intends, on the afternoon of this Monday (28), to sanction the Provisional Measure (MP) concerning the minimum wage. This MP, which provides for the implementation of the National Minimum Wage Valorization Plan for next year, was already approved by both the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate last week.
