The newly appointed Supreme Federal Court Justice's salary of R$ 41 THOUSAND revealed: Compare with other members

Recently, the Federal Senate gave the green light to the appointment of a new justice to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Attorney Cristiano Zanin obtained 58 votes in favor of his confirmation to the highest court of justice, with 18 votes against. There were no blank votes.

Zanin will replace former Justice Ricardo Lewandowski and may remain on the STF until November 2050, according to the rules currently in force. During that time, he will receive a significant salary. So, let’s see how much Zanin and the other members of the court earn.

Zanin on the STF

Initially, the attorney will have a salary of R$ 41,650.92. However, this amount will increase in the coming years, reaching R$ 44,008.52 in 2024 and, in February 2025, reaching R$ 46,366.19.

Zanin will also have access to employment benefits, as will the other justices. According to the Senate, these benefits include a full pension, two months of vacation per year, an airline ticket allowance, a housing allowance, and an official vehicle with a driver.

In addition, the future STF minister may appoint 36 people to their office. Of this total, 30 may be chosen at their discretion, and 6 must obligatorily be STF civil servants who were hired through a public examination.

How much do the other members earn?

The salaries of STF ministers have been gradually increasing from this year through 2025. This is the result of a salary adjustment approved by Congress and the Executive Branch, led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Thus, the members’ salaries will receive an 18% increase, spread over three years. See below the adjustments already implemented and those planned:

In April 2023, the ministers’ salary increased from R$ 39,293.32 to R$ 41,650.92 per month;

In February 2024, this amount will increase to R$ 44,008.52;

Finally, in February 2025, it will reach R$ 46,366.19.
