Approximately 8.3 million households will see a reduction of up to 14.42% in their energy bills. Find out if yours is one of them!

Approximately 8.3 million households in three states will see relief of up to 14.42% on their electricity rates. The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved the new rates last Tuesday (27). These rates take effect this Thursday (29) in Paraná and next Tuesday (4) in São Paulo and Tocantins.

Therefore, in Greater São Paulo alone, the reduction could benefit 18 million people. This is because a single unit supplies energy to several individuals or a company, for example. Thus, consumers served by Enel São Paulo, Energisa Tocantins, a subsidiary of Energisa, and Cocel, in Paraná, are the beneficiaries of this measure.

With Aneel's approval, the average reduction in Enel SP's energy tariffs will be 2.24%. The adjustment will vary for each customer class; see:

  • High voltage: 6.10% reduction;
  • Low voltage: a reduction of 0.97%, and for residential consumers within this group, the average cut will be 0.91%.

According to Aneel, the reimbursement of PIS/Cofins credits and the transfer of funds from Eletrobras resulted in a decrease in electricity bills. Enel SP is Brazil's second-largest energy distributor and supplies 7.7 million units in 24 municipalities in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.

Cocel Paraná

On the other hand, the average reduction in energy tariffs will be 3.89% for the 57,100 units served by Companhia Campolarguense de Energia (Cocel).

Therefore, only high-voltage customers in Campo Largo, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, will benefit from the 14.42% discount.

Energisa Tocantins energy tariff

Finally, the 657,000 units supplied by Energisa Tocantins will see an average reduction of 0.31% in energy tariffs, with the discount varying according to the type of customer:

  • High voltage: a reduction of 0.76%;
  • Low voltage: a reduction of 0.19%, and -0.70% for residential consumers.

Thus, PIS/Cofins tax credits are the main reason for the tariff reduction.
