R$7.4 Billion in Forgotten Money. How to Claim?

THE Bank Central do Brasil has come forward with some surprising information. There is a collective amount of R$1.4 billion in forgotten money that is currently unclaimed. These funds, accumulated in various financial institutions and available through the Sistema de Valores a receivable (SVR), represent unclaimed assets of citizens and businesses, and even individuals who have passed away. In this way, the SVR is an innovative online resource that provides a platform for individuals and businesses to check whether they have forgotten assets.

Understanding the Distribution of Forgotten Money

The available funds vary in amount, with the largest proportion being in smaller amounts. Looking at the numbers, R$ 5.88 billion belongs to individuals (CPF), totaling a staggering 38 million beneficiaries, while R$ 1.52 billion is attributed to companies (CNPJ), affecting almost 3 million corporations. Interestingly, the majority of the amounts to be claimed are relatively small, with 63,04% of beneficiaries eligible for sums between R$ 0 and R$ 10. Larger amounts are considerably rarer, with only 1,76% of beneficiaries having amounts greater than R$ 1,000.01. It is worth noting that the funds already claimed since the introduction of the system reach the mark of R$ 4.8 billion.

How to proceed with the claim

For Brazilians interested in investigating whether they may have funds owed, the process is relatively straightforward. The first step is to visit the SVR website, which is the official access point for this information. From there, claimants will need a key PIX to complete the funds recovery process. For those who do not yet have a PIX key, there are options available. You can either create one or contact the relevant institution directly to explore alternative payment methods.

In the case of claims on behalf of deceased persons, the process is more complex. The claimant is required to be a legitimate relative or legal representative, with the additional need to fill out a liability waiver. Therefore, after identifying the presence of unclaimed funds, the next step is to contact the holding institution. This way, you can find out the specific claim procedures.

This initiative by the Central Bank is a timely reminder of the importance of managing financial assets carefully and offers a welcome possibility of recovering funds for many who may not be aware of their unclaimed assets.
