Therefore, if the proposal comes into effect, the minimum wage will come into effect starting next year. It is worth noting that this would be an increase of 7.7% compared to the 2023 value. Therefore, check out all the details and understand the appreciation policy.

New minimum wage value

As stated before, the new minimum wage value will be R$1,421, an increase of R$7.71. This is because there is currently a new minimum wage appreciation policy, which should increase according to the inflation of the previous year plus the positive variation in GDP from the previous two years.

Therefore, this increase is extremely important, since it exceeds inflation, allowing Brazilians to not lose purchasing power. This is because when the value does not exceed inflation, products remain at the same price, while people's salaries remain stagnant.

In other words, when there is no increase greater than inflation, Brazilians end up spending more money.

It is worth noting that this measure was one of the main proposals of Lula's campaign, so that the minimum wage would be increased during his third term.

When was the last real increase?

It is important to highlight that the real increase means a value above inflation. Thus, the last time this happened before 2023 was in 2019, when the minimum wage went from R$$ 954 to R$$ 998.

During the Bolsonaro government, the value only followed inflation. In 2023, the value went from R$1,212 to R$1,302, but on May 1, Lula announced an increase of another R$18 for the minimum wage, which reached the current R$1,320.
