This past Wednesday (04), Brazil's women's Artistic Gymnastics team won the silver medal at the Antwerp World Championships. Celebrating the achievement, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) to praise the gymnasts and highlight Bolsa Atleta, a program that funds four of the five team members.

Benefit amounts can reach R$15,000 per month
Bolsa Atleta, under the management of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and the Fight Against Hunger – MDS, assists high-performance athletes without sponsors. The amount granted varies according to the athlete's category. See below the amounts for each level:
- Student Athlete: R$ 370.00/month;
- Base: R$ 370.00/month;
- National Level: R$ 925.00/month;
- International Level: R$ 1,850.00/month;
- Olympic and Paralympic Athletes: R$ 3,100.00/month;
- Podium Category: up to R$ 15,000.00/month.
To receive the amount of R$15,000, the athlete must be ranked among the top 20 in the world ranking of their category, thus qualifying for the Podium category.
Who is entitled to this benefit?
First and foremost, to benefit from Bolsa Atleta, applicants must apply to the program, which accepts applications annually. They must then demonstrate regular activity in the sport, be over 14 years old, present relevant results in official tournaments, and be registered with their respective sports federations.
The purpose of the program is to provide financial support so that athletes can focus entirely on training and competitions, raising the standard and excellence of national sports.
How to register for Bolsa Atleta?

To apply for Bolsa-Atleta, you must complete an online form on the official website of the Ministry of Citizenship. After registering, the athlete will receive credentials by email to access the program’s exclusive platform and submit the documentation requested in the Public Notice.
If the documents submitted are insufficient, the Ministry will send the applicant a notification by email, granting a 30-day period for adjustments. If the candidate does not make the necessary changes, their name will be published in the Official Gazette of the Union as a beneficiary.
