Understand why many beneficiaries are receiving less than the program’s stipulated minimum. The bank Caixa Econômica Federal, which manages Bolsa Família program payments, has already announced that certain beneficiaries will receive only R$ 540 in September. This amount is below the minimum set by the MDS (Ministry of Social Development), which determined a payment of at least R$ 600 for each family.
However, the main cause of this reduction was the payroll loan linked to the benefit, which many enrollees took out. Each month, part of Bolsa Família is allocated to repay the loan of those who opted for it, resulting in a lower amount being received.
It is worth noting that there is no way to block the installment deduction. This is because the payroll loan is deducted directly from the account holder’s benefit.
Below, see the list of individuals who will receive only R$ 540 in September and learn more about how the deductions work and Bolsa Família payments for this month.

Who will receive R$ 540 from Bolsa Família in September?
Since October 2022, several Bolsa Família beneficiaries have taken out payroll-deducted loans. As a result, deductions began to be made directly from their paychecks, reducing the amounts received.
Consequently, those who accessed this credit continue to have a deduction of R$ 160 from Bolsa Família. With this deduction, the amount to be received should be R$ 440. However, many Brazilians receive an extra amount.
Currently, the Federal Government grants an additional R$ 50 to families with pregnant women, nursing mothers, children, and adolescents between 7 and 18 years old. In addition, children up to 6 years old receive a bonus of R$ 150.
Thus, families that took out the payroll-deducted loan and have two additional R$ 50 payments due to their household composition will receive R$ 540 in September.
Standard installment in September
It is important to remember that the MDS established new guidelines for Bolsa Família starting in June of this year. It set not only a minimum amount per family, but also per family member.
This indicates that the larger the family, the greater the benefit will be. According to the MDS, the minimum Bolsa Família amount per member is R$ 142. Thus, the amount increases according to the number of members in each household. See:
- Families with up to four members: R$ 600;
- Families with five members: R$ 710;
- Families with six members: R$ 852;
- Families with seven members: R$ 994;
- Families with eight members: R$ 1.136;
- Families with nine members: R$ 1.278;
- Families with ten members: R$ 1.420.
It is crucial to emphasize that families that opted for the payroll loan may see deductions in their payments, regardless of how many members they have. Thus, the program's additional installments may help improve their income until the loan is fully paid off.
