Encouraging news for Brazilian workers emerged with the enactment of a new law, which promises a significant increase in an essential benefit. The Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul approved legislation raising the meal allowance for public servants to R$ 400.

This measure, signed by Governor Eduardo Leite, reflects a significant effort to improve the conditions of state workers. The new law, which came into effect in October, resulted from a proposal by the Secretariat of Planning, Governance and Management, with support from the Secretariat of Finance and the Civil House.

Benefit underwent adjustments

Previously, the meal allowance was limited to R$ 268.84 and, after an adjustment, increased to R$ 366.60, covering all professionals in the state Executive branch. With the new legislation, the allowance is expected to reach R$ 400 as of May 2024. In addition, the law also provides for the elimination of the 6% copayment.

This increase will benefit a significant number of civil servants, raising the total number of beneficiaries from 104,875 to 113,308. After the adjustment planned for May, it is estimated that around 60% of Executive Branch public employees will receive an increase in their net compensation, ranging from 4.1% to 7%.

Retroactive payment and beneficiaries

The retroactive payment corresponding to the months of October and November will be made through a supplementary payroll between December 11 and 13. Payment of the amount for December will be made on the 20th of the same month.

This adjustment represents a significant step forward for public servants, who will benefit directly from the increase in the meal allowance. The measure not only improves workers' quality of life, but also reflects the state government's commitment to valuing and recognizing the work of public servants.

Impact and future prospects

This increase in the meal allowance is an important step toward improving the working conditions of public servants in Rio Grande do Sul. It represents the state government's recognition of the importance of offering better benefits to its workers.

Furthermore, this measure is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, since it increases public servants' purchasing power. Thus, with this initiative, the government of Rio Grande do Sul sets a positive precedent for other regions of the country, demonstrating the importance of investing in the well-being of public workers.
