In a development that promises to bring relief and ease to millions of Brazilians, the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) announced innovative measures regarding proof of life of its beneficiaries.

In a recent update, published in the Official Gazette of the Union, it was stated that benefits will not be blocked or suspended due to lack of proof of life until December 31, 2024.

This decision signals a significant milestone in social welfare policies, aiming to reduce the displacement and effort of beneficiaries, especially in times of caution due to the pandemic.

This adjustment in the policy of INSS modifies the previous one interval ten months to carry out the proof of life, now opting to start the count from the last benefit update or the last proof of life carried out. This change aims to make the process more flexible, making it more adaptable to the reality of the insured.

Why the Proof of Life Change Now?

The INSS faced challenges with the previous process, especially noted in February when around 4.3 million beneficiaries were called to provide proof of life.

Many of those called up had difficulty verifying their identity through existing databases, generating an increase in demand for in-person service at agencies, something that the new measure seeks to alleviate.

What Will the Proof of Life Be Like Now?

The new methodology uses technology and data to confirm the lives of policyholders without requiring travel or in-person visits. From now on, the census will be carried out by cross-referencing information already available in government and partner entity records.

Such information includes income tax returns, payroll loans, use of the public health system, among others.

This year, it is projected that around 17 million beneficiaries will have their life automatically verified by the INSS, without the need for any action on the part of the insured. This not only simplifies the process but also ensures the continuity of benefits for those who really need them.

Who Benefits from This Change?

Essentially, all long-term INSS beneficiaries, including pensions, survivors' pensions and disability benefits, will be positively affected by this update.

Information such as the use of certified applications, medical care, and others already mentioned will serve as a basis for carrying out the proof of life.

This move by INSS is a clear indication of the institute's inclination to favor technological solutions and digitalization to simplify processes and improve the accessibility of its services.

This is a trend that we expect to see more often, not only in the public sector but in all spheres that require bureaucratic processes and verification of information.

The measures adopted by INSS are a direct response to the needs and challenges faced by both beneficiaries and the institute. This is a promising example of how the use of data and technology can bring efficiency and convenience to public administration and its citizens.

The hope is that such initiatives will minimize the hardships faced by the most vulnerable in our society, ensuring them security and stability in uncertain times.
