IMPORTANT! Bolsa Família Will Distribute a BONUS This Month; Learn More

August arrives bringing excellent news to Bolsa Família recipients, as an extra installment is scheduled in the monthly plan. Approximately six million vulnerable households will have the chance to receive an additional R$ 120.

This amount, which is distributed bimonthly, constitutes the payment of the well-known Vale-Gás, or national gas assistance.

It is crucial to remember that the government created this subsidy in December 2021 as indispensable support to help families cope with the costs of cooking gas, a vital element in the daily lives of all households.

The additional amount offered by the program is the result of a careful calculation, equal to 100% of the national average price of a 13 kg gas cylinder, according to the Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (ANP).

Thus, this support aims to ease the financial impact that the high cost of gas can have on low-income families, thereby enabling a calmer and more affordable use of this essential household resource.

However, it is necessary to emphasize that the Gas Voucher is intended only for a specific segment of Bolsa Família beneficiaries. Would you like to learn more about the payment? Then read this text!

Who is eligible to receive the extra Bolsa Família payment?

First, let us look at the requirements, and then explain why the Gas Voucher does not include all Bolsa Família beneficiaries.

To be eligible for this additional benefit, families must be registered with CadÚnico, as is the case with any social support offered by the Federal Government.

In addition, other basic criteria are established, as follows:

  • Have a per capita family income of up to half the minimum wage (R$ 606): Per capita family income is calculated by dividing the total family income by the number of members in the household. To be eligible, the income per person cannot exceed half the minimum wage;
  • Have a total family income equal to or less than three minimum wages: Along with the per capita income criterion, eligibility is possible if the family’s total income does not exceed three current minimum wages;

Participate in income transfer programs: Families with an income above three minimum wages may be eligible if they participate in income transfer programs implemented by the three levels of government. These programs may grant subsidies or benefits to supplement the family income;

Have a beneficiary of the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC/Loas): The BPC/Loas is an assistance support program aimed at low-income people with disabilities and elderly people. If a family member receives this support, it may make the family eligible for other social programs.

However, it is essential to emphasize that there is a priority hierarchy regarding this selection, even more rigorous than that of Bolsa Família. Therefore, the eligibility criteria above are only the basic requirements to compete for this additional benefit.

Priority conditions:

  • Registration in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) within the last two years;
  • Lower-income groups;
  • Families with more members;
  • Families with women who are victims of domestic violence;
  • Records qualified by the administrator through verification information (if available).

Benefit Conditionalities

Last but equally relevant, it is necessary to comply with the “conditionalities” defined by the government to continue receiving benefits from the Bolsa Família program.

First and foremost, it is essential to clarify that these rules are commitments undertaken by families to ensure the comprehensive development of children, adolescents and pregnant women, who are considered groups of greater vulnerability within the family sphere.

That said, see:

  • Regular prenatal care for pregnant women;
  • Adherence to the national vaccination schedule for children;
  • Assessment of the nutritional status of children under 7 years old;
  • Frequent updating of the Cadastro Único.

Minimum school attendance for children and adolescents (children aged 4 to 5 must achieve at least 60% school attendance, while beneficiaries aged 6 to under 18 who have not completed basic education must achieve at least 75% school attendance).

Finally, in addition to promoting social inclusion, these rules seek to ensure improved living conditions for the beneficiary families and the comprehensive development of these groups. Thus, contributing to breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality.
