Furthermore, it is crucial to emphasize that no prior contribution to Social Security is required to request this assistance. The benefit is equivalent to 1 minimum wage in force. In 2023, this amount corresponds to R$ 1320.00.
BPC beneficiaries may engage in paid employment. However, this situation may result in the suspension of the benefit during the period of employment. Furthermore, BPC cannot be combined with other social security benefits and a single individual cannot apply for the benefit more than once.
Single Registry: an essential step
To qualify for BPC, one of the essential requirements is to register with the Single Registry (CadÚnico). Registration is done at the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) or at the local city hall. During registration, it is mandatory to present the CPF of all family members, including children and adolescents.
If the benefit is blocked, it is essential to contact the INSS and regularize the situation in CadÚnico within the period of 30 days.
Per capita income
One of the requirements to access the BPC is that the monthly family income per person (per capita) is equal to or less than 1/4 of the current minimum wage. To calculate the per capita income, the total family income is divided by the number of family members.
