Credit cards are the biggest financial villain in the lives of many Brazilians, but recently debts with banks and credit cards have decreased. The most recent survey by Serasa, released last Tuesday (24), showed a positive result.

Thus, these debts fell 0.31 percentage points between August and September, reaching 28.8%, the lowest level in 2023. See below for more details of this research and understand what happened.

Why has credit card debt decreased?

It is important to highlight that the launch of Desenrola Brasil helped reduce debts with banks and credit cards. The program began on July 17 and is expected to last until December 31 of this year. The focus is to renegotiate Brazilian citizens' debts with lower amounts.

In other words, since the survey was conducted between August and September, the program was already in effect and had an impact on the results. Therefore, it can be said that the government's initiative has had a positive impact so far.

Despite the positive results, the number of Brazilians in default increased slightly in September. Thus, the number rose from 71.8 million in August to 71.7 million, i.e. a variation of 0.12%.
