On Monday (28), Banco do Brasil presented to the public updates regarding the negotiations carried out in the Desenrola program. According to the information released, the bank registered a total of R$1 billion in agreements since the project began.

In 1.5 months, 122 thousand Banco do Brasil customers settled their debts with Desenrola, launched in July. Additionally, it is interesting to note that Banco do Brasil anticipated the Desenrola scenario and introduced internal initiatives for debt settlements. When we add up all these efforts, the total settlements exceed R$1.4T 6.7 billion.

“We are immensely pleased to play a commercial role with a social perspective, thus helping more than 700,000 BB group customers to adjust their finances,” said Tarciana Medeiros, president of Banco do Brasil.

Although the Federal Government created Desenrola, agreements are being established directly between the client and the bank in this initial phase. In this way, each institution has the freedom to propose the best conditions and discounts to pay off debts.

In the case of Banco do Brasil, the proposal involves offering up to 25% in reductions in renegotiation interest rates and a period of up to 120 months for payment. And for those who wish to settle their debts immediately, there is a discount that can reach 96% for payment in cash.

Segmentation

The Federal Government's Desenrola program is aimed at two main groups:

  • Group 1: individuals with a per capita income of up to two minimum wages and who accumulated debts of up to R$1,000,400 by December 31 of the previous year;
  • Group 2: those with per capita income of up to R$1,400,000 and who accumulated debts only with banks up to December 31 of the previous year.

Currently, the focus is on Group 2, referring to individuals who have outstanding debts only with banks. This explains why banks like Banco do Brasil are seeing so many benefits at the moment.

Representatives from the Ministry of Finance reported that Group 1, made up of lower-income citizens, will be served starting in September. The application for Group 1 will be launched between the 25th and 29th of next month.

General summary of Desenrola

The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) released a statement celebrating the first results of Desenrola, describing the program as a triumph for the government, society and financial institutions.

In its first month, the Desenrola Program registered a total of R$9.5 billion in negotiations, considering only Group 2. This segment includes debts from customers who earn between 2 minimum wages and R$20 thousand, and who are not in the Federal Government's Single Registry, Febraban reported.

The positive results of Desenrola have led to considerations about extending the program. Recently, the president of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante, suggested the idea of developing a version of the program focused on companies.

He concluded: “My proposal is a new Desenrola focused on investments in Brazil. We will consider the active debt, which totals trillions, and which the government is unable to collect. Companies do not pay it off, and this affects their credit,” he said.

“We want to transform part of this debt into investment, to leverage the country’s development. We need ‘Desenrola Negócios’, and perhaps the active debt can be directed towards this,” he concluded.
