Receive a benefit from the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) is common for those who have contributed throughout their careers, ensuring financial security in retirement. However, many people may find themselves in a situation where they have never contributed to the INSS, whether due to unfavorable financial circumstances or other reasons. The good news is that, even without contributions, some people are entitled to receive the BPC (Continuous Cash Benefit).
Who is entitled to the INSS Benefit?
The BPC is an assistance benefit paid by the INSS and is intended for two categories of beneficiaries:

- Older adults aged 65 or over: To be entitled to the BPC, the older adult must prove a minimum age of 65. It is not necessary to have contributed to the INSS, but it is essential to prove low-income status, that is, having a family per capita income of less than 1/4 of the current minimum wage.
- People with disabilities of any age: People with disabilities can also receive the BPC, regardless of age. As with older adults, it is necessary to prove low-income status.
BPC rules and amounts
The amount of the BPC corresponds to one current minimum wage. Currently, the minimum wage in Brazil is R$ 1.320,00. therefore, this is the benefit amount. It is important to mention that the BPC does not grant entitlement to a 13th salary and does not leave a death pension.
Additionally, to receive the benefit, it is necessary to meet some criteria:
- Prove the minimum age of 65 (in the case of elderly people) or the status of a person with a disability;
- Have a family per capita income below 1/4 of the minimum wage;
- Not receive any other social security or assistance benefit, such as retirement, death pension, sickness benefit, among others;
- Have Brazilian nationality or reside in the country and intend to remain permanently.
How to apply for the BPC?
To apply for the BPC, the applicant must schedule a visit to an INSS agency or access the official website to submit the application online. Therefore, it is necessary to provide documents proving age, the status of a person with a disability, and low-income status, such as an ID card, CPF, proof of residence, among others.
