THE Gas Aid Program was launched in 2021 to support vulnerable Brazilian families who were unable to purchase a cooking gas cylinder. This is one of the main benefits offered by Federal Government, and its beneficiaries closely monitor the payment schedule.
Since its implementation, the benefit has reached millions and, in 2023, still serves the lowest-income families in Brazil. In fact, the Lula government undertakes to cover 100% of the national average cost of a 13-kilo gas cylinder for those who benefit. Therefore, families can rest assured regarding the gas supply.
In August, the central government released a amount of R$ 108 to 5.63 million of subscribers in the Gas Aid Program. The Federal Savings Bank was responsible for making these payments, as well as managing other social benefits and workers' rights in Brazil.

This September, payments of the Gas Aid were paused, causing discontent among beneficiaries. According to the Ministry of Social Development, Family and Fight Against Hunger, the benefit is bimonthly, that is, it occurs every two months. Hence the lack of payment in September.

In summary, payments from the Gas Aid Program will resume in October. Until 2024, there will still be another release, in December, maintaining the bimonthly standard.
It is important to note that the payment schedule is based on the last digit of the Social Identification Number (NIS), distributed over the last 10 business days of the month. Thus, each day, a different group has the benefit deposited into their accounts.

Estimated amount for aid in October?
It is important to emphasize that the amount is expected to remain close to the previous values, around R$ 110. See the evolution of the value of Gas Aid Program in 2023:
- February: R$ 112;
- April: R$ 110;
- June: R$ 109;
- August: R$ 108.
It is important to note that the government consults information from the weekly survey by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). Basically, this agency announces the average cost of cooking gas each month, and the government uses this information to define the value of the installment.
Recently, the average price of a gas cylinder was R$ 100.69 in the national territory. This indicates that the government could adjust the amount of the benefit. However, this readjustment seems unlikely, since the values have exceeded the average price since June.
Criteria for receiving Gas Aid
THE Gas Aid Program is intended exclusively for individuals who:
- Are actively registered on CadÚnico;
- They have a maximum monthly family income of half the minimum wage (R$ 660) per member;
- You have someone in your home who receives the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC) from the INSS.
Additionally, the legislation that established this benefit also prioritizes families with women victims of domestic violence under emergency protective measures.
Although many are eligible, not everyone receives the benefit. It is worth noting that participants in the Family Allowance are at the front of the line. However, even this condition does not guarantee receipt of the Gas Aid. Ultimately, candidates must wait month to month to verify their eligibility.
