Maintaining the school attendance of the children of Bolsa Família beneficiaries is essential to continue receiving Auxílio Brasil 2023. Therefore, parents or guardians should monitor their children’s school absences, as this may affect the continuity of the benefit.
According to the decree that created the new Bolsa Família, students are required to attend at least 60% of school days if they are up to six years old, and at least 75% if they are older. The government monitors school attendance and may suspend the payment of the benefit, which has a minimum value of R$ 600, if the rules are not followed.
However, it is important to note that some unavoidable situations may justify the absences and, in these cases, the family can contact the school to avoid losing the benefit. The Bolsa Família Control System considers the following justifications for absences:
- The student is ill (this must be confirmed/evaluated by the school);
- There has been illness/death in the family (this must be confirmed/evaluated by the school);
- Failure to provide educational services;
- Impediments to freedom of movement, such as environmental factors, a state of public calamity, floods, lack of transportation, urban violence or violence in the school area.
It is vital to emphasize that, according to Ordinance No. 879, published on 28.04 in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU), no blocks, suspensions or cancellations will be applied for noncompliance with the program's conditionalities in May. However, families should continue sending their children to school to avoid future setbacks.
Benefit Updates in 2023
Some of the more than 21 million Bolsa Família recipients are questioning the payment of Auxílio Brasil 2023 in May. There were rumors of a possible early payment and an additional amount in this month's Bolsa Família schedule. However, an investigation by NE10 confirmed that the payment will not be brought forward and that the additional R$ 50 will not be paid this month.
