An increase in the minimum amount for purchasing property with FGTS funds was announced by the Lula government. Check it out!

Despite being a right of workers with a formal employment contract, the Severance Pay Guarantee Fund (FGTS) can only be used in situations provided for by law, such as the purchase of a home.

In view of this, the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) decided to increase the minimum value for purchasing properties with FGTS funds. Thus, the Special Housing Credit Program for FGTS Members (Pró-Cotista), through the Ministry of Cities, will allocate at least R$2.010 billion for the purchase of new properties.

Purchase of new properties with FGTS funds

Recently, the Ministry of Cities issued a normative instruction that updates the values established at the end of Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government, in December 2022. At that time, the budget allocated to the purchase of new properties was set at R$1.2 billion.

With the new normative instruction, a maximum value that can be used to acquire properties above R$500,000 with FGTS funds was established. Now, instead of R$600,000, the value will be R$2.010 billion.

Pro-Quota Program

Workers with accounts linked to the FGTS have access to the Pró-Cotista housing finance line, provided by Caixa Econômica Federal. This line allows the purchase of new and used properties, and even construction, with financing for up to 30 years.

It is important to note that in the case of inactive FGTS accounts, that is, those that no longer receive deposits, the balance must be equal to or greater than 10% of the value of the property that the worker intends to acquire. Unlike the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, there are no specific requirements or income limits to access financing through the Pró-Cotista Program.
