Several factors led to the suspension of payments. For many beneficiaries, Bolsa Família serves not only as a financial supplement, but also represents the main source of income for their households. Therefore, losing this financial aid has a major impact and requires vigilance from beneficiaries. One of the states most supported by the program has many citizens at risk of losing this assistance.

Aline Pontes, who is responsible for Bolsa Família in Maceió – capital of Alagoas – reveals that at least 2,237 people may be removed from the program. In Alagoas, 549,601 families rely on this financial support, according to the Ministry of Social Development (MDS).

Reduction of Bolsa Família in Maceió

In Maceió alone, 106,000 families are actively benefiting, receiving at least R$1,400 per family unit. In August, the MDS confirmed the entry of 4,400 new participants in Alagoas, who were registered in the Single Registry and met the necessary criteria.

The amount offered by the Federal Government varies, guaranteeing at least R$ 142 for each family member, which is crucial for this group. In addition to R$ 600, there is an additional R$ 150 for children up to 6 years old and R$ 50 for pregnant women and people between 7 and 18 years old.

In Maceió, around 2,200 people are at risk of being removed from the program, as their Caixa Tem accounts have been inactive for more than 120 days. This payment freeze is a concern, as it is related to the stagnation of bank accounts.

“We have a total of 2,237 individuals with inactive accounts. They are different profiles, some that have not been updated recently and some with several people in the family or even single individuals,” Aline explains.

If the money is not used or withdrawn within 120 days, the government understands that it is no longer necessary to maintain this aid and, therefore, pauses the assistance, reverting the amounts to the National Treasury.

Those with problems with their digital accounts can withdraw their Bolsa Família in person at Caixa or lottery outlets. In addition, to check the status of the program, the following methods are available:

  • Single Registry Center in Serraria, located on Avenida Menino Marcelo, formerly Via Expressa;
  • Using the Caixa Tem app (Android or iOS);
  • Going to a lottery shop or Caixa Econômica Federal branch.
