Changes to Gas Aid: drop in product price motivates federal government to reduce benefit value.

The federal government expects to reduce the amount of Gas Aid in the coming month of June, as a result of the recent drop in the price of gas, announced by Petrobras.

This social assistance, made available every two months, fully covers the cost of a cooking gas cylinder. In April, R$1.4T 110 was transferred to 5.7 million families.

The amount of the benefit will be cut due to the drop in the price of gas, which is calculated based on the national average for the product determined by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). With the cost of gas below R$100, the Gas Aid will be distributed in a reduced amount to the 5.7 million families eligible to receive it.

The government highlights that the drop in the price of the product will allow for the allocation of more resources in the program's budget, which could result in assistance to a greater number of individuals.

To be eligible for the Gas Aid, you must meet certain criteria, such as being registered with CadÚnico, having a per capita family income of no more than half the minimum wage (R$ 660) or a total income that does not exceed three minimum wages. The federal government makes payments on a bimonthly basis.

The benefit may be extended to families whose total income exceeds three minimum wages, as long as they are involved in federal government income transfer programs. Furthermore, they may be entitled to receive the aid if at least one family member is registered for the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC).”
